Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Rebekah has had a love and appreciation of Musical Theatre from a young age. Starting with the tradition of watching Top Hat on New Year’s Eve at her grandparents house, and renting VHS tapes from the library with her sister of classics such as Gypsy, Singing in the Rain, Meet Me in St.Louis, The Music Man, and so many more. Summers spent watching shows at Rainbow Stage, and later volunteering as an usher so she could watch every performance of every show. Rebekah started training in all styles of dance as a young child, participating in school musicals and community theatre productions, and finding her voice as a member of a show choir. These opportunities solidified that Musical Theatre was not just something she loved to do, but something she had to do; there was no turning back.
After high school, Rebekah attended the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s Teacher Training Program where she trained extensively in the Professional Division and was given her first real taste of creating choreography and mentorship through the First Steps Choreographic Competition. Year one was a Betty Boop inspired ‘tap en pointe’ piece; year two, a lively exploration of America and Dance at the Gym from West Side Story for which she won the Paddy Stone Scholarship for excellence in Jazz and Musical Theatre Choreography; and finally in year three a classical pas de deux performed with live music and singers. First Steps gave Rebekah an opportunity to start building her choreographic knowledge, push the boundaries, and receive insight from the amazing mentors at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
While still training at the RWB, Rebekah booked her first professional show as an actor, in Rainbow Stage’s production of The Wizard of Oz (2006). After completing her time at the RWB, she focused her attention towards teaching, beginning a mentorship with Brenda Gorlick and Winnipeg Studio Theatre in their youth training division. Brenda gave Rebekah opportunities to create choreography for their productions, and further develop her skills in strong story-driven choreography. Around this time, Rebekah also founded the Springfield Theatre Company, a youth theatre company in the RM of Springfield, MB, which she directed and choreographed for 11 years. Rebekah adored working with these young artists and developing a love of musical theatre that was cultivated in her from such a young age, but she knew she wanted more.
In 2015, Rebekah started working closely with Ray Hogg who encouraged her to reach out to companies and start to apprentice and assist on productions and gain valuable professional experience. This resulted in a relationship with Dry Cold Productions and Donna Fletcher, and from there a beautiful mentorship began. Rebekah apprenticed under Donna on A Man of No Importance, and further went on to be an Assistant Director and Assistant Choreographer on The Addams’ Family and Kiss of the Spider Woman. In 2023, she was brought back as the Choreographer for the Canadian Premiere of The Prom. During this same period at Rainbow Stage, Rebekah was an Apprentice Choreographer on Les Miserables (2015) and worked closely with Hogg through the choreography creation of Shrek! The Musical (2016).
Rebekah continued performing alongside this developmental period, performing and learning from strong, female leaders in the industry such as Tracy Flye (Billy Elliot at RMTC) and Lisa Stevens and Ann Hodges (Mamma Mia! at Rainbow Stage). These women showed her what it takes to be a strong leader in this industry and inspired her to keep going. Rebekah was selected to assist Sarah Garton Stanley on Fun Home (2019) as part of the RMTC Assistant and Apprentice Programme; this show and this opportunity taught her so much about how to lead a room and how to put up a show of this scale. Just as she felt she was gaining momentum, we entered the Covid years. Rebekah continued to work on her skills through this time, even choreographing an entire production of Matilda for a high school through videos and Zoom sessions.
In the RMTC 2022/2023 season, Rebekah applied once again for the Assistant and Apprentice program and was selected to assist Artistic Director Kelly Thornton on Into the Woods. With this show, she was given more responsibility and more voice in the room and was able to solidify herself as someone to watch in the Winnipeg community. Rebekah then went on to choreograph the RMTC and Manitoba Bar Association production of Urinetown (2024), act as the Movement Director on the Regional Tour and Warehouse production of Murder for Two (2025), and most recently assist under the amazing Julie Tomaino on Elf, The Musical (2025).
Rebekah has been fortunate in her career to learn from strong, creative, kind, and fierce female directors, choreographers, and artistic directors. They have shown her what it takes to be an inspirational woman in this industry, and she hopes to carry that torch forward wherever her career may take her. Most importantly, they have taught her to bring laughter, joy, and a love of what we do to every opportunity.
When not working on musicals, Rebekah teaches dance at Kickit Dance Studio in Winnipeg (whose studio directors performed alongside her in her first professional show of The Wizard of Oz in 2006) where she currently focuses on the competitive ballet program, following several successful years choreographing competitive Tap and Musical Theatre. She is also the instructor for the Intro to Dance for Musical Theatre program at the University of Winnipeg. Rebekah also loves to travel and will take any opportunity to hop on a plane, be it a short trip within Canada or overseas to destinations like London, Paris, Croatia, Australia, Japan - just to name a few.
